Iran-Armenia film screens among Oscar submissions in US

Iran-Armenia film is set to screen among a choice sampling of the Academy’s foreign-language film race.

Iran-Armenia film 'Yeva' is set to screen in the US among a choice sampling of the Academy’s foreign-language film race in 2018.

The Smith Rafael Film Center will showcase Anahid Abad’s ‘Yeva’ under a selected series dubbed “For Your Consideration” to be held in January 3-11, 2018.  

The flick stars many recognized actors and actresses from Armenia such as Narine Grigoryan and Shant Hovhannisyan.

 ‘Yeva’, a woman who is under prosecution in connection with her husband’s murder, faces challenges in her life, the movie synopsis read.

The Farabi Cinema Foundation, based in Iran, represents worldwide rights for the movie.

According to a media release published on the film center website, the series programmed by Karen Davis and Janis Plotkin is a rare opportunity to view some of the most distinguished works in international cinema, many of which are film festival prize-winners.

Each year the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences invites countries to submit a single film for consideration in the competition category of Foreign Language Film.  ‘Yeva’ was the chose for Armenia/

This year 92 films have been accepted for competition and, for the 15th consecutive year, the Smith Rafael Film Center offers a choice sampling.
